My husband preached at church this past Sunday since our pastor was out of town. He has done this one other time in the past couple of months (and quite a few time when he was on staff at our church in Indiana). In all the stress and uncertainty of the last year I have not been privileged to see my husband in his true element – and I loved it!
Brian is many good things just as a man, but the thing that he is best at? Ministry….it’s just what he was made to do. Nothing blesses me more than to see him doing what he does best – leading worship, preaching, praying for people, counseling…..he does them all with such a tender heart turned toward God, and he does them all well.
I realized today, that he could get any number of jobs just to pay the bills, but he could never truly DO anything else as a vocation. I can’t imagine him being happy doing anything else. If anybody I have ever met was truly made to be a Pastor, it’s my man.
Seeing someone you love get to do something they love? THAT, is priceless!
So my challenge to you? pray for those that you love, that they would either discover what they were created for and grow into it, or continue to find pleasure and blessing in doing it if they already are!

I went to see 27 Dresses today. I know I’m late to the game. This movie came out several months ago, but I pretty much only go see movies in the theatre when they come to the Dollar Theatre near us – you can get 2 movie tickets, a large popcorn and 2 drinks (with free refills on both) for $12 and if you don’t want the popcorn and drinks it’s only $3 for 2 adults – so I don’t really care if the movie is a bit older!
I went saw this movie with my mom and sister today while my hubby went to see Rambo with my Dad…..it was very nice way to spend a rainy and cold Saturday! The movie was really cute….light, romantic, funny and and touching in parts – just the way I like my movies. Life is hard sometimes – depressing and discouraging. I don’t need to pay money to go to a movie that will depress, discourage or scare me! I like to feel good when I walk out of a movie. This fit the bill perfectly.
The funny part? Rambo let out 15 – 20 minutes earlier than 27 Dresses….and it started 5 minutes later. Apparently, according to my Dad, it takes more time to try on all those dresses and fall in love than it does to slaughter a bunch of people and rescue a bunch of missionaries! Gotta love the chick flicks!
So in the end, the guys were happy, the girls were happy, and a good time was had by all – a stellar start to my little Spring Break!
What movies have you seen lately?

My kids (well my son at least) is on Spring Break from school next week – my daughter won’t be in school until next fall. But, it is officially Spring Break in our house tomorrow afternoon when school ends…..and guess what I get to do for Spring Break? Are you ready for this………this is good!
I get a 9 day break from being a parent……9 whole days! 9 yummy days! My husband’s Mom and Step-Dad are coming here – that’s right, they are driving all the way here, to pick up my kids and take them home for the entire week! I know I should pretend that I’m going to miss my kids like crazy (and I will) but the truth is, I can’t wait for a break from the day to day stress of being mommy – especially since I started to work full-time. It’s draining to be a full time mom and a full time employee!
I am really excited to have some time to focus on just my husband and I. The last year has been really stressful for us – more than I can express. I’ve been aware on many occasions of how that stress is effecting our relationship – we are not a couple who argues, but in the last few months, we have argued more than we have in probably the last few years. We just need some time to focus on our relationship – and I think we will get much more of that with the kids gone. It’s not like our marriage is in trouble, but I want to keep it from getting to that place you know?
So, my kids will spend the next 9 days having a blast and being spoiled rotten by 2 sets of Grandparents (both of my husband’s parents live nearby each other) – they probably won’t miss us at all. And me? I will be relishing a little time to refocus and recharge,
Now, if I could just get the next 9 days off of work with pay…we would really be in business!

What is a girl to do? Okay….I was thrown a bit of a curve ball this week. American Idol and Dancing with the stars are going head to head….which one do we watch? In the past I would have just recorded one on DVR and watched one. Right now, however, that isn’t an option. So, which do I watch?
I’ve invested alot more time in American Idol these last few months and Dancing with the Stars is new this season, so I picked American Idol. I will hope to catch some of Dancing later in the week on my parent’s DVR when I can get a moment.
So, which one are you watching?

Or This?

My hubby is having a birthday today. We actually celebrated it on Easter when we were all together and having a nice dinner. I made him his choice of birthday cake….his pick? Chocolate cake, with peanut butter and chocolate chips baked into it. Chocolate pudding between the layers, and chocolate-peanut butter icing. I know right? It’s like a PMS cake if I’ve ever seen one! He thinks there isn’t any point to dessert if it is not as much chocolate as you can take. Wanna see a picture of it? I thought you might!

I would like to point out that the cheesy decorations are only because the icing was SO DIFFICULT to use that it is the only think I could manage. I didn’t have access to my cake decorating stuff so this is the best I could do!
I’m so proud of this man I married! He is the most incredible husband ever – He loves me more than I deserve, is patient, funny, affectionate, an amazing father, an extraordinary worship leader, a fantastic teacher…I could go on and on.
So today, I celebrate my amazing husband…..I can’t wait to celebrate many many years of birthdays together. Happy Birthday Honey! I love you more than I could express.

Isn’t he the cutest?

Um…..I think we have a problem here.

I need prayer guys…….lots and lots of prayer! This is more temptation than any mom should have to face. I view it as an obstacle to overcome. My kids, they view it a bit differently!

For the last seven years or so Easter has not been a holiday that has been very enjoyable to me. With Brian being on staff at such a large and busy church, Easter usually meant that we would not see him at all for days at a time. 6-7 Easter services stretched out over the weekend meant that I spent all my time alone with the kids and went to Easter service by myself. Abbie didn’t get to get ready and show Daddy her beautiful Easter dress. Having no family closer than an hour away meant that by the time Brian was home from church at 3pm or so and we drove to get to family, it was evening and he was so exhausted he couldn’t enjoy dinner or family time. It was stressful and too busy to enjoy.
This year, all of that was different. We colored Easter eggs together – as a family. The kids were with their cousins and had a great time! It was so enjoyable for me to have that special time together. I spent Saturday shopping and getting food ready…all with the help of my husband. I didn’t do everything alone! We got up this morning and had an nice breakfast and got ready for church together…Abbie got to show Daddy how beautiful she looked in her dress and was thrilled. We went to church and sat together….I loved that!
My nephew was baptized as part of the service today along with several other people from the church….it was a really neat service. After church we took some family pictures together and then went home and gathered food and a change of clothes and went over to my sister’s house where we had a really fun Easter egg hunt for the kids and a fantastic dinner. It was low stress, enjoyable and memorable for all of us.
I know that in the future, things will probably get more complicated again. Brian will not always be able to be around or not busy with church stuff during holiday times. But, I don’t see us ever going back to an environment where we have to push that hard – doing 6 plus services for a holiday along with multiple rehearsals and technical run-throughs. I think it will be different. And, even if it isn’t as different, I have had this great day to remember what it is like to just be a normal family enjoying a holiday together.
I will post some pictures tomorrow when I’m not so worn out from the weekend!
How was your Easter?

I know that many churches “market” to their target audience. I’m not going to debate the right or wrong of that issue – I’ll keep my opinion to myself, but this…..has to be one of the oddest church marketing techniques I’ve seen.
Let Jesus into your Wii

Wow…..would never have thought of that one. I don’t know if I should give them props for the creative approach or shake my head in confusion. I’ll keep you guessing about that decision! You know, nothing quite captures the essence of an Easter Celebration – a day to honor our savior for his gift of salvation and defeat of the grave than an avatar of Jesus that you can go bowling with or box with…or against.
What do you think?

I love a good joke! Here’s one of my recent favorites:
The Cardiologist’s Funeral
A cardiologist died and was given an elaborate
funeral. A huge heart covered in flowers stood behind the
casket during the service.
Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the
casket rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the
doctor in the beautiful heart forever.
At that point, one of the mourners burst into
laughter. When all eyes stared at him, he said, “I’m
sorry, I was just thinking of my own
funeral…I’m a gynecologist.”
The proctologist fainted…
