The Care Bears, Hello Kitty and Why I love Burts Bees Chapstick!

November 5, 2006

It’s been a busy weekend at our house! Friday we grilled out with the kids and then took them to the mall because they think its really fun and hey, it’s cheap entertainment. While at the mall we discovered that the Care Bears are going to be at the mall live on Saturday morning from 11 to 1. Abbie wants to go see them so we promise her we will do that in the morning. Morning comes around and we sleep in, then we all 4 pile into the bed for morning cuddles and book reading. It was a lazy and much needed morning together. When we finally get ready to go it’s almost 12pm and Brian and Noah decided to go off together and have “guy time” while I take Abbie to the mall.

When we finally get to the mall and find a parking space we realize that it’s 12:45 and we are in the wrong location – the Care Bears are at the other side of the mall. So we run to the other side of the mall and you guessed it…They are gone! It’s over and we missed it. Now disappointment is never a fun thing. Even grownups hate to be disappointed, but you have never seen anything quite as sad as the face of a 3 year old who has been disappointed! The pouty lip, the pool of tears in the big eyes, the shuddery sighs, it’s all really quite heartbreaking!! So Mommy makes a valiant effort to make it up to her and my brilliant idea was to take her to Build a Bear Workshop and let her build a stuffed animal. It worked like a charm, and now,$20 later we are the proud owners of Hello Kitty who is her new best friend.

My other brilliant plan for the weekend (which I don’t think I really thought carefully through)was to get out the Christmas decorations since we will be so busy over the next few weeks and then will be gone for 8 or 9 days at Thanksgiving. I don’t want to wait until December to put them up…You just don’t get to enjoy them enough. So, I put up decorations until 12am last night which thrilled the kids to no end, but not so much my sweet husband. It is, however, done now and we have beat the Christmas rush (hey if the mall and stores can have Christmas Decorations already, so can we!) It’s one less thing to do in a busy Christmas season! Now all I have to do is clean up, make a menu and grocery list, go grocery shopping, finish the laundry and go to our small group tonight! It’s busy and hectic but it’s been fun.

As an aside, I want to officiously plug my new favorite can’t live without product….Burts Bees Chapstick! If you have not tried it, let me tell you, it’s “The Bomb”. I didn’t think I could actually love a chapstick, but I do this one!Get yourself some and see why it’s the best out there!!!
