Weird Spam Text Messages…

February 28, 2009

Do you ever get random text messages from strangers? I do occasionally, but this one was new…

Have I ever mentioned my opinion on spam? For the record…I think it sucks. Particularly if it’s in the form of a text message that I may get charged for. Just sayin.

Here is the one that I just recieved:

“Felicidades MEGA SORTEOS INTERNACIONAL te informa que tu # es GANADOR de 1 TOYOTA HILUX 4×4 y 60,000 DOLARES l lama ya”

I did take some Spanish way back in college…but let’s be honest here – I wasn’t really paying that much attention.

Anybody want to take a stab at this? Tell me what it means? My best guess is that it has SOMETHING to do with a Toyota and 60,000 dollars….and seeing how there are LOTS OF CAPITOL LETTERS it must be really exciting.

Help a girl out….

Exactly the same message I got yesterday… It means you just won a Toyota Hilux and 60k.. Now, my husband called them back, and they wanted all kinds of information from him, name, address, bank account information, so my husband played along giving them fake information to see how far they will go…… When my husband told them he had no bank account they said they could send him a money order but they need it $500 from us to “finish the process”….

Its a big spam from Guatemala, and they believe is coming from the Guatemala jails….. Seriously??? How ignorant do this people think we are?????

I’ve often wondered that Maria…there has to be some sort of payoff or these groups wouldn’t do these type of scams. It’s sad to think that people actually fall for it.

all of you are absolutely right.

I speak Spanish and I tried to investigate more about it doing a favor to a friend and: don’t call this number it is a scam. in Spanish there are several blogs showing it is a scam. some numbers ask you to send money in order to receive the prize and another numbers just clone your phone number. so don’t reply to it. SCAM….. search for it in spanish you will see tons of people explaining it. also the website of “megasorteo” yes they do they have one… LOL its a joke something that can be design for a teenager. so please. dont let them trick you don’t even call they can use also your information for identity thief. so be careful.
